Baca entri selengkapnya »

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

Some examples:

PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.” Baca entri selengkapnya »

DUBLIN, Ohio — After conversations Saturday with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and emergency management officials about Hurricane Gustav, Barack Obama said cooperation between the local and federal government “appears to be good” but he will continue to monitor it.

“The main message,” Obama said, “is for the public in those areas that are potentially in danger to take the evacuation seriously, even if you have ridden out this storm before, even if you think that it may pass over, even if you think you can wait until the last minute, this is going to be potentially very, very serious.”

It was the second time Saturday that Obama had spoken with the press about the hurricane, now a Category 4 storm. After an evening rally here, Obama detailed his conversations with Jindal, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and R. David Paulison, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Baca entri selengkapnya »

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama named Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware as his vice presidential running mate early Saturday, balancing his ticket with a seasoned congressional veteran well-versed in foreign policy and defense issues.

Obama announced the pick on his Web site with a photo of the two men and an appeal for donations. A text message went out shortly afterward that said, “Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee.”

Biden, 65, has twice sought the White House, and is a Catholic with blue-collar roots, a generally liberal voting record and a reputation as a long-winded orator. Baca entri selengkapnya »

Books For the Fall: Obama, Woodward and Moore

By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer 2 hours, 46 minutes ago

NEW YORK – In case you’re wondering which books to read this fall, Michael Moore has a suggestion: Don’t read any.

Not the new fiction by Toni Morrison or Philip Roth or Stephen King. Not that policy book by Sen. Barack Obama, whom Moore is supporting for president; or Bob Woodward’s latest on the Bush administration; or Thomas Friedman’s manifesto on the environment.

Not even a little paperback meant as a handbook to the political campaigns. It’s called “Mike’s Election Guide 2008″ and it’s written by a certain Academy Award-winning filmmaker and well known agitator named Michael Moore. Baca entri selengkapnya »
